Data protection
General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
Taking into consideration technological advancement and new methods of processing personal data, it has become essential to adopt a new instrument which will ensure data protection and protection of fundamental freedoms of individuals with respect to processing their personal data. The Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data – “General Data Protection Regulation” or GDPR has been in force since May 25, 2018. The Regulation represents important improvement in the field of personal data protection and it ensures balanced and unified processing by supervisory authorities for personal data protection, which will result in simpler and more equal protection of rights for all individuals in the European Union. On November 20, 2018 the Ministry of Construction and Physical Planning, as one of the public authorities, adopted the personal data protection policy, whose purpose is to inform the respondents on the methods of processing, using, storing and securing personal data.
Supervisory authority – Personal Data Protection Agency
In accordance with valid legislation of the European Union, every Member State has to establish a supervisory authority responsible for monitoring the application of regulations on data protection, which is also prescribed by the General Data Protection Regulation. In the Republic of Croatia, the supervisory authority established is the Personal Data Protection Agency.
